Trending: Nigerian Woman Returns N330 Million Mistakenly Credited to Her Bank Account
A Nigerian petty trader identified as Aisha Isah Yelwa has sparked reactions online after returning a massive sum of N330 million that was mistakenly credited to her First Bank account.
The incident, which occurred in Lapai, Niger State, has become a trending topic on social media, with many praising the woman’s rare display of integrity during hard times.
How It Happened: According to reports by Nigeria Stories on X (formerly Twitter), Aisha, who is a petty trader, discovered the huge balance while checking her account due to some debit issues.
To confirm if the money was real, she reportedly tested a transfer of N1 Million to another account, and it was successful. Instead of fleeing with the windfall, she visited the bank branch the next day, accompanied by her lawyer.
The Bank Manager confirmed it was a “System Glitch,” reversed the funds, and cleared her of any liability. Speaking to Lapai TV, Aisha explained that preserving her children’s future and her integrity mattered more to her than keeping money that didn’t belong to her, despite her financial struggles.
Netizens React: The story has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users applauded her honesty, others felt she missed a “New Year Blessing.”
- @iam__temmyyy commented: “Smart woman! Jail is real!”
- @AyodeleII argued: “Integrity as how? They’d have found her either way!”
- @BiliMike wrote: “God gave her a new year blessing, but she decided to turn a blind eye. Sigh!!!!”
- @Silverhard_ expressed suspicion: “Hmmmmm, these bank people just dey move money around idle accounts, very suspicious thing.”
What would you do? If you received N330 million by mistake today, would you return it immediately like Aisha? Let us know in the comments.
