The stars descended on Rabat, Morocco, last night for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards 2025, and what a night it was! In a glittering ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, African football royalty was celebrated, with the hosts, Morocco, sweeping several major categories and Nigeria’s Super Falcons reaffirming their dominance in women’s football.

The Big Winners: Hakimi and Chebbak Take the Crown
The headline of the night was undoubtedly the crowning of the African Players of the Year.
- Men’s Player of the Year: Achraf Hakimi (Morocco & PSG) After a stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain and leading the Atlas Lions, Hakimi finally clinched the top individual prize. He beat out stiff competition from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Egyptian legend Mohamed Salah. This win cements Hakimi’s legacy as one of the world’s premier full-backs.
- Women’s Player of the Year: Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco & Al Hilal) In a historic moment for Moroccan women’s football, Chebbak took home the Player of the Year award. Her creativity and leadership for the Atlas Lionesses were pivotal this year, edging out Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.
Goalkeepers of the Year: The Safe Hands
- Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year: Yassine Bounou (Morocco & Al Hilal) “Bono” continues to be a wall for both club and country. His heroics remain unmatched, earning him the award yet again.
- Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year: Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria & Brighton) The Nigerian shot-stopper made it a “three-peat” (or close to it), winning the award for the third consecutive time. Her performances for the Super Falcons and in the WSL have been nothing short of world-class.
National Teams & Coaches
- Men’s National Team of the Year: Morocco U-20Surprisingly, it wasn’t a senior team that took the accolade, but the Moroccan U-20 squad, recognized for their incredible development and recent successes.
- Women’s National Team of the Year: Nigeria (Super Falcons) The Super Falcons continue to rule the roost in Africa, taking home the team award after another strong year.
- Men’s Coach of the Year: Bubista (Cape Verde) A well-deserved win for the tactician who has turned Cape Verde into a formidable side capable of punching above its weight.

- Men’s Club of the Year: Pyramids FC (Egypt) Breaking the usual Al Ahly/Zamalek dominance, Pyramids FC was recognized for their outstanding growth and performance in continental competitions.
- Men’s Interclub Player of the Year: Fiston Mayele (DR Congo & Pyramids FC) The relentless striker was rewarded for his lethal finishing on the continent.
- Young Player of the Year (Men): Othmane Maamma (Morocco)
