Veteran Nollywood actor Ayebo Yemi Solomon, widely known as Yemi My Lover, is currently in the news after sharing his past experience with famous Nigerian singer Olamide Baddo.
In a recent viral interview, Yemi My Lover stated that Olamide, the YBNL boss, never paid him for using his name in one of his hit songs. According to the actor, Olamide was the first celebrity to feature his name in a song, a moment that initially brought him immense joy. He believes his name is truly blessed, which is why other prominent artists like Davido and various popular skit makers have also used it in their content.
Recounting the experience, Yemi My Lover said: “Olamide was the first to sing with my name. I was very happy when I heard the song; I thanked God. God blessed my name, that’s why people used it to sing. Davido also sang with my name; many people made use of it.”
Furthermore, Yemi My Lover recalled a story about Fuji musician Pasuma, who once asked him if Olamide had compensated him for using his name. When Yemi My Lover responded no and mentioned he hadn’t even met Olamide, Pasuma immediately called Olamide right there in front of him.
He explained: “Pasuma said: ‘Yemo, did Olamide compensate you for using your name in his song?’ I said no, and that I had never met him before; we don’t have each other’s numbers. Then Pasuma called him on the phone.”
Yemi My Lover revealed that Olamide apologized during the call and instructed him to get his phone number from Pasuma so they could talk further. However, that conversation was the last he ever heard from the YBNL boss.
The seasoned actor expressed his disappointment, stating: “Pasuma gave me his number, and I called Olamide for more than six months, but he never picked my call. I sent him messages; he never read them or replied, so I let him be.”
It’s worth remembering that Olamide released the popular track “Yemi My Lover” in 2013, as part of his album “Badest Guy Ever Liveth.” The song quickly became a hit, enjoying high replay value among music enthusiasts.
