Paystack Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Suspended Over Misconduct Allegation

Paystack has stepped aside its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, after a serious allegation of sexual misconduct involving a junior staff member surfaced online mid-week. The issue blew up on social media on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, the company confirmed that Olubi had been removed from all duties while an internal investigation begins.

According to Paystack, the move is simply to allow a proper, independent review. The company stressed that matters like this cannot be taken lightly, especially in a workplace as sensitive as the Nigerian tech space, where conversations around misconduct have become more frequent in recent years.

Apart from the fresh allegation, a batch of Olubi’s old tweets from over ten years ago also resurfaced. Many of those posts contained sexual jokes, comments about colleagues, and references people online have now described as disturbing. As the screenshots spread across X, the pressure grew. Olubi has not said anything publicly, and shortly after the tweets started trending, he deactivated his X account.

For context, this isn’t the first time the African tech ecosystem is confronting cases of misconduct from senior leaders. Similar incidents have happened in Kenya and other parts of the continent, raising concerns about how organisations enforce workplace ethics.

Paystack, founded in 2015 and famously acquired by Stripe in 2020, says it will not make further comments until the panel concludes its work. The company insists the investigation will be fair and transparent, guided by its internal policies.

For now, all eyes are on the outcome — a reminder that in today’s digital world, past actions and online behaviour can quickly return, especially when accountability is in question.
