Seun Kuti comes for Naval Officer ‘A.M Yerima’ & VDM Over Wike Incident

The tension from the recent altercation involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a young naval officer, Lieutenant Ahmad M. Yerima, is still spreading across Nigeria. The viral clip sparked plenty of reactions online, and now singer Seun Kuti has joined the conversation with his own sharp take.
While activist Verydarkman (VDM) earlier criticised Wike for his conduct during the clash, Seun Kuti didn’t exactly stand behind his friend this time. Instead, he dismissed both Yerima and VDM, insisting the officer’s action wasn’t bravery as many Nigerians claimed.
According to Seun, if an officer truly wants to show courage, he should refuse to carry out any assignment that goes against the law. He argued that protecting what he described as “illegal land” is not something to celebrate. In his words, standing firmly on the Constitution would have been the real show of boldness.
Kuti also described the behaviour of both Wike and the officer as embarrassing for the country, calling them “cowards” for allowing the situation to escalate publicly. He went further to say that if the military was as fearless as people assume, insecurity and banditry wouldn’t be troubling Nigerians the way it is today. For him, the long-term failings of the armed forces became clear the moment they were deployed to face insurgents without the right equipment or vehicles.
Meanwhile, Nigerians online are divided. Some believe soldiers must follow orders regardless of their personal opinions, while others say Yerima did well by standing his ground against Wike’s intimidation.
