The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has turned down a request by former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, to travel abroad for medical treatment.

This development follows an ongoing legal case in which Bello faces multiple charges related to alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed the rejection, stating that allowing Bello to leave the country could obstruct ongoing investigations and court proceedings.

“The commission has reason to believe that granting such a request may jeopardize the integrity of the case. Mr. Bello remains under scrutiny,” Oyewale stated.

Yahaya Bello had filed the request through his legal team, citing medical needs as the reason for his proposed trip outside Nigeria. However, the EFCC insists that all medical concerns can be addressed locally and that the former governor must remain available for legal processes.

The case continues to draw national attention as the anti-graft agency intensifies efforts to prosecute high-profile corruption suspects.
